What's On
Our Sporting Life - Keswick
21 May 2011 to 03 Sep 2011
Keswick Museum and Art Gallery is pleased to be hosting Our
sporting Life. Much of the sport in this area of the
Lake District involves climbing and other outdoor pursuits.
Rock climbing began as a sport in nearby Wasdale Head and we are
showing renowned photographs taken by the Abraham brothers as well
as material on loan from the Mountain Heritage Trust. There
are also films showing early climbs of Napes Needle as well as
well-known climber and guide Stanley Watson.
We celebrate our local sports clubs with objects and photographs
kindly lent to us by the cricket, bowling, hockey, football, rugby,
tennis, rambling , croquet and orienteering clubs. And we
remember Keswick's link with the Olympics when 1948 gold and silver
medal winner Barney Ewell visited the town and took part
in the 1950 Keswick Sports
