Organisers  Oxford Preservation Trust and the University of Oxford say this year's programme is even more varied than the previous year and  promise something to interest everyone and all free of charge.   Debbie Dance, Director of Oxford Preservation Trust said, 'Our special theme is Oxford's Sporting  Heritage as we look forward to London 2012 and we are encouraging local sports fans to come and celebrate this part of the city's history.  Visitors will be able to see inside Oxford University Rugby Club and Cricket Pavilion, visit the site of  Roger Bannister's record breaking 4 minute-mile and see what the view is like from  the Director's Box at  OUFC'. Oxford Brookes University is also offering taster sessions at its sporting facilities and a chance to learn more about its sports related research while the Town Hall will host fencing and gymnastics displays and Oxford City Football Club will celebrate the start of its 130th season.

Among this year's other highlights, City Sightseeing Oxford are inviting local people to climb Carfax Tower for wonderful views of the 'dreaming spires', while round the corner that famous institution the Oxford Union will be welcoming visitors to the home of political debate and its splendid interiors.  Of the more unusual venues taking part this year,  the Oxford Food Bank, off the Botley Rd, will be showing people how they provide 5000 meals a week to those living in food poverty while the Oxford & District Aunt Sally Association will be demonstrating this traditional Oxfordshire game in the Castle gardens and these are only a few of the 180 events and activities taking place over the weekend of 10 and 11 September.  For more information see online at www.oxfordopendoors.org.uk or pick up a brochure from local libraries and cultural centres, the Tourist Information Centre and Oxford Castle Unlocked.
