Leeds United to open Museum at Elland Road
Leeds United Football Club is to open its own museum in the
newly-redeveloped East Stand of its home ground in spring 2012.
Hundreds of items of the Yorkshire club's memorabilia will be on
display, including old trophies, historical documents, shirts and
scarves, and gifts presented to the club before European games.
The permanent displays will be animated with film, sound and
colourful graphics. A changing temporary exhibition programme will
include displays covering various periods of United's history, and
an exhibition on the club's most prolific goal-scorers.
Leeds United became one of the top teams in England under the
management of Don Revie in the 1960s and '70s. Revie's team
included England and Scotland internationals Billy Bremner, Johnny
Giles, Jack Charlton, Peter Lorimer, Norman Hunter and Allan
Clarke. His team were top of the English First Division in 1969 and
1974 and also won the FA Cup, the League Cup and two European
trophies. Leeds won the league again under Howard Wilkinson in
1992.
Visitors to the museum will be able to vote for their greatest
Leeds team ever, and choose Leeds' greatest games and goals. The
new museum opens in spring 2012, admission prices to be
confirmed.
