Sports Heritage Network
The Sports Heritage Network (SHN) was established in 2003 to
promote interest in Britain's unique sports heritage. In 2006 a
major survey of Britain's sporting heritage was undertaken and a
report was produced by SHN. The 'Hood ' report identified over 400
sports heritage collections in museums, libraries and archives
throughout the country. The founder members of the SHN are
drawn from some of our major sports museums: the National Football
Museum in Manchester, the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum, MCC Museum,
Lord's, the River & Rowing Museum in Henley on Thames, the
World Rugby Museum in Twickenham, the British Golf Museum in St.
Andrews and the National Horseracing Museum at Newmarket. The
combined experience of these museums and a passionate belief in the
power of sporting objects to inspire people motivated them to
launch OSL in 2008. They remain committed to preserving
sporting heritage beyond 2012 and hope to attract other museums to
share their vision.
